About me
Baby me, Birmingham, UK in 1989
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering at Hacettepe University. I completed my Ph.D. at the Knowledge Discovery and Web Mining Lab with Dr. Olfa Nasraoui at the University of Louisville.
My research is in explainable machine learning, with the aim of making black-box models more transparent and trustworthy. Rather than generating explanations of a model only after it has been trained, I develop in-training and pre-hoc/co-hoc explainability frameworks, an interpretable component is learned jointly with the predictive model so that the resulting explanations are faithful to the model by construction. Current directions include concept-based explanation for deep architectures, the evaluation of explanation faithfulness beyond deletion-based metrics, and applications to robotic systems.
